This is Music. This is The Verve

Tonight I'm going to party like it's 1998. I never got to see the original line up of The Verve before they broke up 10 years ago but tonight I get a second chance to relive my collegiate Brit-rock years and space out at MSG Theatre to the sounds of King Richard, space rock guitar-God Nick McCabe & co. Pray for me: that I don't slap anyone who screams out for "Bittersweet Symphony" and that I don't dance like Ian Brown at any point.

The night is a failure if you don't end up dancing like Ian Brown.

Ok. I'll dance like him but I won't sing like him...the man's voice is crap live.

Yet he is still a baggy deity.

I was in one of your typical bar band a few years ago, and we played your usual numbers...fairly uninspiring stuff.

At my last gig with them I sprang "The Rolling People" on 'em as my own musical Custer's Last Stand before I bowed out of the music biz. Alone with my Start on the mic, I belted it out like a badge of honor.

Of course, no one in the non- Verve-centric audience knew what we were playing, but I rocked it out nonetheless. It did get this one middle aged woman dancing like a stripper right in front of me.

Don't even know which way I'm going to,
The lights are on and I am feeling blue;
I hope you know which way I'm going to fly,
Thank you for my life
I said good night, good-bye...
