Team Turnpike: The New Jersey Best XI

The dude Ives G. put together his All Jersey Best XI today and I'll be damned if it isn't a squad that could certainly compete in MLS, if not abroad. What's interesting is that he picked only players that are currently playing; no Garden State greats from the recent past (Harkes, Meola, Ramos) and back in the day that we've read about 100 times. The amount of youth on the squad is matched only by the amount of talent it holds.

I'd encourage you to read the entire story, complete with the where they are and why they made the cut, here. But if you are on a time budget or have ADD and just want to see the list of players, check it out below.

FORWARDS

Giuseppe Rossi, Clifton.
Jozy Altidore, Newark.
Alecko Eskandarian, Montvale.

MIDFIELDERS

Claudio Reyna, Livingston.
Michael Bradley, Princeton.
Danny Szetela, Clifton.
Eddie Gaven, Hamilton.

DEFENDERS

Gregg Berhalter, Tenafly.
Jason Hernandez, Englewood.
Matt Sleece, Clifton.

GOALKEEPER

Tim Howard, North Brunswick.

Rossi is not someone that should be considered from New Jersey. He does not like where he was born and we should have no interest in him either.

Traitor!

But he was born in The Dirty Jersey and I think that is the only criteria for this exercise.

Yeah, Ives is on my shit list right now. his criteria for anything is on a sliding scale of convenience that serves him while he's writing his latest article.

Apparently the defense in NJ is hanging out with Hoffa.

I'm calling shenanigans on Michael Bradley. He was born in New Jersey, this is true, but he was raised and played high school ball in Illinois.

Bradley spent less than four years in the Chicago area, leaving when he was, what, fifteen? Bradenton and the Metrostars, when he was high school age, developed him more than Illinois. Plus he was in NJ until he was 10: 12 years out of his 20.
