I got nothing against NASCAR and have actually had a mild curiousity to go to a race ever since I saw Stroker Ace. My brother & sister-in-law do the whole RV thing and go to a few races a year. They always offer to take me but something in me feels that as a southerner it would just be horribly cliche...that and all the confederate flags everywhere makes my stomach turn.
Am I overthinking this? Seriously, let me know because I've quit seeing my therapist.

I kind of felt the way you did about Nascar until i was finally talked into going to a race. They're fairly entertaining and great for tailgating...
Them boys need some bandeliers!
YEEEEEEE HAW!
I've gone to two Brickyards and didn't see this plethora of confederate flags as you say.
Regardless, even if they were on display; why allow your negative stereotypes to hijack the rich cultural history of the south and NASCAR for that matter?
Confederate flags in my opinion are not "rich cultural history of the south" in my opinion. For my money it is a symbol of treason, and in is un-American in my mind. That's just my opinion. I'd have a hard time relaxing with one of the favoured symbols of confedrates and klansmen mingling freely with ads for MGD (the champagne of beers).
Try it! You'll have a great time, especially if you go in an RV. It's a unique experience that I haven't seen anyone come away dissatisfied from.
I've only been to races in the midwest, so the confederate flags aren't really as prominent as they might be in, say, Alabama, but I never ran into any problems and I'm not 100% white.
Go. Go. Go. Seriously, get going.
