I Still Hate Rossi

I usually love Frank Dell'Apa's writing; along with Ives, & Goff he is one of the best in the country. And I don't think this article is bad actually, but his idea to bring Rossi back to the States to play in MLS is as wrong as jellied eels.

Why should Major League Soccer, an institution that was formed not only to further the game in the US but also to further the American player, want invest it's resources in a player who has repeatedly snubbed the US? I'll admit that he's a gamer with incredible skills but he's not a name that will draw people in to see him, and trying to make him into a star while he is a) on loan & b) not a part of the larger US soccer picture makes as much sense to me as dancing about architecture.

Even the idea of it reminds me of those dysfunctional people who defend their abusive lovers....no matter how good-looking he is if he hits, curses, mocks and degrades you why would you want to have his baby?

Furthermore, I don't believe he would ever even consider it; if he this kid thinks that playing for the US Nats is beneath him do you really think that he's going to be up for playing in a 3/4ths empty Gillette Stadium on a Weds. night? I doubt it...and they don't even have a Prada outlet in Massachusetts.

Frank if you are reading this, I mean no disrespect. But if we show Rossi love, the terrorists have won.

wow. you are completely retarted. equating a player who has the oppurtunity to play for the world cup winners instead of the US, a distinctly average team, with terrorists is just plain irresponsible.

i dont understand how people can say he was produced by the US. he was produced by his dad (an Italian) who happened to live here. you take his dad out of the equation and he wouldnt be where he is.

how many players were born in other countries who represented the US? Adu, Dooley, Regis, Ramos, Clavijo. where's the outrage?

Hello Anonymous-

I am not "retarted" [sic]...never riden the short bus in my life (but there is nothing wrong with that if I had).

Shunning an "average" US team for an "winning" Italian team makes Rossi a glory seeker in my book. Regardless of parentage Rossi is an American born and raised in Clifton, NJ. His old man may be from Italy but he is an American.

You are correct in that Rossi was not developed in the US system, and that is a shame; we could use good American talent like him but he is choosing the more glamourous path. And as far Adu, Clavijo, Ramos etc. goes the difference is that they chose to side with the US because they lived here. Rossi was born here and lived here…it's not like he was living in Italy when he decided to join the Azuri.

I'm not one to argue (or call people "retarted" because they have an opinion that is different than mine) but I think some things needed a bit of clarity so I thought it would be best to reply.

what about owen hargreaves?
he's a canadian born player who is in the current england team setup?
he had the choice of three countries (maybe four?) but he chose england who were th emost lucrative and successful at the time of his choosing
lots of players do it
also take france as an example, they have lots of african born players in their team and not to mention the amount of brazilians in various national sides; alex : japan, da silva : croatia etc
didn't man utd sign rossi from an italian club anyway?
when did he move back to italy from the us?
