Vive les Quebecois

It's been a while since I posted any
USL news so I thought I'd bring up this piece from a few days ago. The USL's Montreal Impact have thrown down the gauntlet in regards to MLS expansion franchise Toronto FC.

"Toronto FC hasn't proven anything yet," Impact president Joey Saputo said Thursday. "We're still the best team in Canada and our goal is to continue to be the best team in Canada and, if we have the opportunity to play Toronto FC, our goal would be to prove it."

The CBC story is here. These guys certainly don't have a little brother complex. And why should they; they have higher attendance than several MLS clubs, in some cases pay better than MLS, are about to begin construction on their own SSS, and have a supporters group (UMO2) that rivals anything going stateside. And I won't even mention their high-alcohol beer, and strip clubs that defy justification.

Shit, can we get them in as the 14th team?

Your right about the Impact having a good fan base for USL standards, even better than Many MLS Team.

But the USL itself really is a 2nd division league to the MLS. Though Montreal has more fans, they are merely the #1 team in the # 2 League.

Toronto FC broke all MLS records in fan noise and attendence in only its first season. We have more attendence to a regular season game, that the League Champions did in the finals.

Finally, Toronto is sold out, we will average 20 000 fans, nearly double that of the Montreal Impact.

Toronto is a big city, the lynks did poorly because we dont accept 2nd rate. If MLS is the best N.America can muster, than we settle for only the best.

Having attended both a Montreal Impact and Toronto FC games, theirs no doubt in my mind that Canada is a soccar country. However, unless the Impact join MLS, with a SSS the size and calibre of BMO field (Toronto FC)... then really we cant compare...

Besides, the Canadian Soccer Association chose to work with Toronto FC...

Toronto FC also signed many forwards from the English Premier League as well, so only our reserves and some of our less known players are from the Impact (aside from the GK)
